It’s also the first phone in India to ditch the 3.5mm audio port in favor of CDLA Studio which uses USB Type-C to pass digital signals to your headphones.

Design:

LeEco has made a name for itself in India as one of the most affordable and fast-performing smartphone brands out there. Its first smartphones like the Le Max Pro and the Le 1s were a revelation in their own right, with the latter being one of the most sold phones from any brand in the country in 2016.

The Le 2 is a descendant of that phone and as such, it retains all the aspects that worked well on its predecessor – narrow bezels around the jet black display, chamfered edges along the metal back, and a symmetrical design that makes for a comfortable grip. However, besides a different Le logo and the circular fingerprint sensor that acts as the home capacitive button, there isn’t much else that stands out.

The phone runs the company’s custom UI called EUI which is built on top of Android Marshmallow and lacks an app drawer. The apps are stacked across multiple pages that you have to scroll through in order to find the app you’re looking for. Thankfully, you can install a launcher of your choice and get rid of this rather annoying design feature. Other than that, the Le 2 offers great performance and a large battery that keeps it going for long periods of time. It also comes with various subscription-based services like SeeSo, Netflix, and Showtime that you can opt for if you’re willing to pay extra.

Camera:

Le 2 comes with a 16 MP camera which is quite decent and provides some great shots. The front camera is 8MP which also works well. The phone comes with a metal build and looks similar to the earlier Le 1s but has clear-cut antenna lines at the back. It weighs 153g which is pretty light for a smartphone and feels comfortable to hold in one hand.

The fingerprint sensor is placed in the center of the phone, just above the Letv logo. The back panel is a mirror-like finish that reflects the surroundings. The back also has a microphone along with the camera flash. The phone doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack but does include a USB Type-C to 3.5mm adapter.

Like other Chinese phones, the Le 2 runs the company’s Emotion UI (EUI) on top of Android Marshmallow. It does not have an app drawer and all apps are stacked across multiple home screens. It does come with some interesting features though.

The phone does offer a few digital well-being features such as Focus mode and Family Link which can help you with your productivity, app usage, and content limits. It also comes with a feature called “Smart AI” which lets you control the device with voice commands. You can even turn off the screen, lock the fingerprint sensor, and other such options with the phone’s voice.

Battery:

LeEco launched the Le 1S in India just over seven months ago and it’s already a well-established player in this fiercely competitive smartphone market. The phone was pretty impressive for the price at which it came and it’s no surprise that it’s been a hit. The successor is the Le 2 and as with the first phone, this one comes with 3GB of RAM and a powerful MediaTek Helio X10.

Like its predecessor, the Le 2 is a unibody metal device that looks premium with shiny chamfers on the sides. It’s fairly heavy and big at 153g but it’s comfortable to hold with its smooth surfaces. The display is a 5.5-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1080p. It’s bright and clear in broad daylight but I feel it’s missing a bit of vibrancy and saturation. Especially in the standard color mode found in the settings.

The Le 2 uses a USB Type-C port for charging and connectivity. It supports USB Power Delivery and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging. It also doesn’t come with a 3.5 mm audio jack but you can use standard headphones with the included Type-C to 3.5 mm converter. The phone comes with Le Live which is a cool feature that lets you stream content from your local library or online.

Connectivity:
